NOVEMBER 2008 NEWSLETTER

It seems hard to believe that this is Nov. already!  I enjoyed our time at conferences and appreciate the time you took to come in. We are grateful for the goodies you are sending in for the Noah’s Ark parties..I think the children will have fun!  Thank you so much for caring about your child's pre-school!
I don't know why but I always enjoy Nov.and talking about the Pilgrims and Indians.  It never hurts to spend extra time looking at all those things we have to be thankful for. One of those things is our children.  God has entrusted to us an awesome responsibility in raising them!  Please keep in mind that you are raising potential adults--what kind of people do you want them to be?
Since our focus this month is the story of Thanksgiving, we will be cooking our own stew.  For this stew we need each child to bring in one ingredient each.
Please send in one small veggie that corresponds with your child's first name:
                                     A - F  1 carrot        G - O  1 unpeeled potato        P - Z  1 stalk of celery
(ie. if your child's name is Ann, she would bring in one raw, unpeeled carrot)
Check the calendar to see which day is your vegetable day.  Speaking of vegetables, I would like to remind you to think about your child's diet.  Are you keeping your child's health in mind as you feed him?  A proper diet has a direct effect on your child's physiological and mental well-being.  I hope you are encouraging a selection of foods from all four food groups..meat, breads and cereals, milk, and fruit and vegetables.  Try to look at how much sugar your child is getting in a day's time through soda pops and candy.  Healthy diet now has a direct link to health and well-being as an adult.  Children also live the example they are shown, are you taking good care of yourself?  Please try to teach your child good eating habits!
We do have lots on our calendar so keep it handy. Thank you for sending in your family pictures..we look forward to putting them in the hallway..you may come in to see anytime!
We are needing your help with our "Operation Christmas Child" collection--where shoeboxes are stuffed--hand-packed with toys, school supplies, necessity items, candy, for children of desperate situations in other areas of the world.  It is my hope that maybe we can reach out to some suffering children, showing them the true meaning of Christmas--as well as learning about other parts of the world.  I know the children will enjoy being "kids who are helping kids"!  Information is coming about this as we need to fill our boxes right away for them to be shipped in time for Christmas!  Please check your calendar for the week that we ask for the presents.  I am so grateful to the many moms who have been busy collecting and wrapping shoeboxes; buying things like washcloths, crayons, coloring books etc!
It will be exciting to see how many boxes we are able to fill and ship!   We will keep you in touch!
 PRE - K NEWS
On Nov. 3rd (AM Pre-K at 9:00) and 4th (PM-2 Pre-K at 10:00), we will meet in the hallway between Books and MCL  in the mall and take a free ride on a Muncie City Bus. We not only get to ride the bus, but also go through the bus wash and  possibly ride the trolley! We ask that moms take and stay with their children and the whole trip should only last about an hour to an hour and a half.  Siblings are welcome to come! It is free!!  No regular classes that day only!  By the way, don't forget about our  "Roaming Library Card"!!  It is a great way to use the library for the year!  It is much cheaper than cable TV and so much better for the imagination!!
As I mentioned in the conferences, we will begin work on numbers and counting this month.  You can be reinforcing these lessons by counting at home - count the signs between house and school, count how many peas are on your plate, count how many beds in your house etc.  We need a big brown paper bag on the 5th / 6th. Please don't forget to send in your veggie on the 24th.  We are moving the PM-2 class from Tues. to Monday (same class time, just different day) so that the Wee Ones may have their feast on Tues.  If you will notice on the 26th, we'd like to combine both Pre-K classes that day and meet in the morning.  The reason for this is that some families like to leave early for travels & if you have elementary age children, you can be involved in their activities at their schools.  Hopefully, we can come together to eat our stew and be thankful.  Please come early (around 11:30) for pick up if you would like to watch us share that time together.  Don't be surprised if we come home stuffed like turkeys.  The children usually like this stew.
WEE ONES NEWS
On Nov. 6th (9:45-AM Class), we will be meeting at Kennedy Library for a storyhour at the library. We love to encourage reading and know the children will enjoy their special time in this fun place!  Hope you can bring and stay with your little one!  By the way, don't forget about our  "Roaming Library Card"!!  It is a great way to use the library for the year!  It is much cheaper than cable TV and so much better for the imagination!!
On Nov. 4th (9:00 AM), we will meet in the hallway between Books and MCL in the mall and take a free ride on a Muncie City Bus.  We not only get to ride the bus, but also go through the bus wash and hopefully ride a trolley.  We ask that moms take and stay with their children and the whole trip should only last about an hour and a half.  Siblings are welcome to come! It is free!!  No regular classes that day only!
We will be working on counting.  It definitely helps if you can be counting things at home. Learning doesn't have to be work..it can be fun.  We will be playing lots of games this month and trying to improve our new friendships.  One day we will be making Indian headbands and sending home some little "Indians" to you, so be ready.  Your veggie day is the 25th and even these little ones usually like our stew. Our Thanksgiving feast for these classes is that day and please come early (11:30 ish) to watch us share that time together!
We certainly hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and safe travels.
